Early 2000s fashion style

Catchy title, it was once a go-to conversation t-shirt of mine (see left and cringe) . I have a sneaking suspicion it is true, or perhaps it's all just a bunch of the Yellowstone memes I've been seeing passed around social media.

Really I wanted to get into the latest and greatest trend of all things cowboy, I believe the cool kids are calling it "Cowboy Core". And my goodness it is about time. As a girl who grew up making annual pilgrimages out West, I am delighted to see that a slice of Americana is here to stay through 2024 into 2025. Giddy-up.

First, the likes of Dasha and Shaboozy have turned line dancing mainstream- a band wagon I have happily jumped on. It takes me back to the era of "Soldier Boy" and "Cupid Shuffle" with just a splash of that small town Footloose feel. The thing with the line dancing trend is that it has normalized big belt buckles with low slung jeans, sueded cowboy hats and oversized denim jackets paired with pigtail braids... Oh and did I mention how I am obsessed with the return of the bandana top? Of course there is always Beyonce's take on it, freely mixing textures while line dancing her way through one poker game after another... denim and diamonds have never looked so good.

Afterall, they say everything is bigger in Texas and everything about the cowboy couture trend has proven that to be fact. There is a fun pendulum with this trend that I think elegantly plays into the dycotomy of the old west- rough leathers and earthy materials playing with soft white cotton petticoat flounces. Gingham being turned into tailored pieces while flowing feminine curls are being pulled back with a silk ribbon and paired with boots. Sigh.

I love that the "Texani Lite" or "Stivali Texani" (for you fluent folk) trend that was popular amongst the Italian teens on Saturday nights last summer has found its way onto runways and into street style here in the States. There is something decidedly youthful and homespun about a girl in a mini skirt with knee height cowboy boots with an oversized college sweatshirt and legs for days.

Of course for those of us who are out of our twenties there are plenty of textures to play with beyond just sassy boots...between the knit serape style wraps that have found their way down the runway, to chunky turquoise jewelry and bold leather tooled belts with vintage string ties (an accessory that always makes me want to mumble "I'll be your huckle bearer" a la Doc Holiday).

The bottom line is that this trend is here for the long haul to might as well make some apple pie, have a hip flask of 'shine for a few cattle drives and yeehawww (no spurs please).
